The Diocese of Latacunga, to which our community of Saquisilí (Ecuador) belongs, celebrated the XIII Youth Day (JDJ) on August 28, 29 and 30. This has stimulated us to pray more for and with young people, listening to the voice of the Spirit through their concerns, questions, desires, and discovering the God who is within their hearts and wants to manifest himself in their lives.
With the motto "Young man, I tell you get up" The JDJ 2020 has been developed online; Almost 350 young people have participated. As Daughters of Christ the King, it has been a gift to collaborate in the programming process and in the development of the day and to be able to learn about the life of the 25 youth communities of the diocese. Various activities have been carried out: opening and closing Eucharist, different forms of prayer, catechesis, virtual gymkhana, course-therapy, plenary sessions and, of course, the talent night... in addition to the four preparatory catechesis, working on Pope Francis' message to young people. A special feature has been the participation of the family through breakfast, food and the creativity manifested in the preparation of the altar in each home.
The young people have produced a hymn, a logo, an attractive layout of the catechesis, videos reflecting the life of the youth communities ... they have shown creativity and interest, as well as the need to be listened to and accompanied throughout the year.
The objective as diocese and as Youth and Vocational Ministry of Latacunga, is to continue giving continuity to this event, accompanying young people and celebrating the Year of Youth that we began, and enable young people to be testimony of faith and hope for our society.
