The National SICNIE-J (Servants of the Catholic Church of the Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador) of young people met on March 5 and 6 in Riobamba convened by its board. The meeting that takes place annually took place, with the participation of jurisdictions from all over Ecuador at the National level.
The Daughters of Christ the King are participating in these meetings, accompanying the indigenous youth of Cotopaxi where they are trying to resume the path that as SICNIE began in 1988 in Saquisilí with the indigenous adults led by Monsignor Leonidas Proaño motivated by the encounter with Pope Saint John Paul II in Latacunga in 1985.
It has been a meeting of great cultural richness, being able to observe the different customs, traditions and languages of the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Sierra, and the coast. Young people from Aguarico, Napo, Riobamba, Ambato, Guaranda, Otavalo have participated... The objective is to try to promote the identity that they have as indigenous youth. It is a joy to see how they value the culture of their people, listen to the gospel in Quichua, the songs and interpret the inculturated Gospel from their reality and experiences from a deep experience.
The meeting also allows the different pastoral agents to get to know each other, establish ties of communion from the different congregations that have participated: the Sisters. Lauritas (whose charism has the characteristic of dedicating themselves to the inculturation of the gospel in the culture of the native peoples) of Ambato, Riobamba, Napo and Aguarico, in addition to the Salesians of Guaranda, the Sisters. of the Providence of November 11 and the Daughters of Christ the King of Saquisilí.
